We, as small business owners, wear a lot of hats. There is of course your profession (which you bloody rock at by the way) then there's the roles of bookkeeper, admin assistant, delivery driver and of course.. Sales person.
Ick, that last title there makes some of us feel a littttle uncomfortable doesn't it? No one wants to be seen as too salesy but, we also want the sales in order to have a profitable business so, what can we do?
It's not our fault. We set up our business, loving what we do and so presumed it was a case of build it and they will come! Some of us just didn't give the promotion side of our business much thought. Set up an Instagram account - check drop out a few flyers - check. Now we wait, and keep waiting, and the only thing turning up is the crickets we can hear. This then knocks your confidence completely. Thoughts like "what have I done, I'm not cut out for this" enter our heads and "maybe I'm too expensive" which leads to us immediately discounting out offerings or, WORSE, giving them away.
