The Heartbeat community platform I’m so glad I chose first time round


When I decided to start my paid community, I knew one thing for sure… It couldn’t just be a Facebook group. Not because Facebook groups don’t work, they do, but because this was something I was asking people to pay for. It needed to feel different. Better. More intentional.

I’d already been inside other communities on different platforms… and a lot of them just felt a bit… messy.


Things were hard to find

Notifications were all over the place

And sometimes it just felt a bit clunky and glitchy.


I remember thinking “If I ever run my own community, I want it to feel EASY.”

Easy to join.

Easy to use.

Easy to come back to.

Because the people I support are small business owners. They’re busy, they’re juggling life, kids, clients, content… they do not have the time (or headspace) to learn a complicated platform.

What I was actually looking for

Before I chose a platform, I got really clear on what I needed.

I wanted something that felt:

  • Professional (because this is a paid space)

  • Simple (no steep learning curve)

  • Organised (so nothing gets lost)

  • And most importantly… welcoming


I didn’t want it to feel like a course portal and I didn’t want it to feel like chaotic social media either.

I wanted it to feel like: a proper community… but structured in a way that actually supports people

That’s what led me to Heartbeat.


My first impressions of Heartbeat

When I looked at Heartbeat community platform straight away I was like… oh I like this.

It felt:

  • Fun

  • Colourful

  • Easy to move around

  • And really intuitive


There wasn’t that awkward “how does this work?” phase. You know when you join something new and you’re clicking around trying to figure it out? That didn’t happen and that was a huge green flag for me because I knew if I felt like that, my members would too.


What it’s actually like running my community on Heartbeat

I run my community (Get Seen Get Sales) fully inside Heartbeat, and there are a few things that have made a massive difference day-to-day.


1. It actually feels like a community (not just content storage)

This was a big one for me.

Inside Heartbeat, my members can:

  • Chat with each other easily

  • Jump into threads

  • Ask questions without it feeling formal or intimidating


It’s got that “group chat” feel…but without the chaos of messages getting lost.

And that balance is hard to get right but Heartbeat does it really well.


2. It’s easy for members to just get started

This might sound small, but it’s actually huge. When new members join, there’s no big learning curve.

They can:

  • Have a quick mooch around

  • Click into different areas

  • Start engaging straight away


I’m not having to explain how to use the platform.

And that means they actually use it.

3. It makes running the community feel lighter for me

As the person running the space, this matters so much.

Everything feels:

  • Organised

  • Easy to manage

  • Simple to update


I can focus on:

👉 supporting my members

👉 creating content

👉 building relationships

…instead of trying to manage a messy backend.


4. They’re constantly improving it (this is a BIG one)

One of the things I love most about Heartbeat is that they’re not just sitting still.

They’re always working on new features.


A recent addition has been their AI Pulse, which has honestly been incredible. It’s clear they’re actually listening to how communities are run and building tools that support that, not complicate it and as someone running a growing community, that gives me a lot of confidence in sticking with the platform long-term.


What my members think

It’s not just me that finds it easy, my members do too and that was the real test.

The feedback I hear most is:

👉 “It’s so easy to use”

👉 “I didn’t need to learn anything”

👉 “I could just jump straight in”


That’s exactly what I wanted.

Because if a platform feels overwhelming, people won’t use it…no matter how good the content inside it is.


The honest bit (because no platform is perfect)

I think this part is important, Heartbeat isn’t perfect.

One thing I’ve noticed is that sharing photos and videos can be a bit tricky.


Sometimes files that feel like “normal” size (just from your phone) can be too big to upload easily.

It’s not a dealbreaker for me at all, but it’s worth knowing, especially if your community relies heavily on visual content.


Who I think Heartbeat is PERFECT for

From my experience, Heartbeat is ideal if you:

  • Run a paid community

  • Want something that feels professional but not complicated

  • Care about member experience and ease of use

  • Want your space to feel like a community, not just a content hub


It’s especially good if your audience is:

👉 busy

👉 time-poor

👉 not techy

Would I choose it again?

Honestly… yes. In a heartbeat (pun intended 😉)

I feel like I skipped a lot of the “trial and error” stage that I see other community owners go through and that’s probably because I’d already experienced other platforms as a user and knew what didn’t feel good.
