If you're anything like me, and I know you are, you’ve got a million things on your plate.

You didn’t start your small business to spend hours figuring out what to post on social media. But you do want to be seen, grow your audience, and increase your sales. So how can you make social media work for your business without draining your time (or your will to live)?

The answer? Batch-plan your content for the week in just one hour.

Yep, it’s 100% doable. In this blog, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step method from my Social Media Planner that takes just 60 minutes to plan a whole week of social media content. No more scrambling every day or staring at a blinking cursor wondering what to say.

Whether you're juggling client work, kids, or just trying to stay sane, this method will help you get strategic, save time, and stay consistent online.

Why Planning Ahead is a Game-Changer for Social Media

If you've ever found yourself posting just for the sake of it, you're not alone. But here's the thing, random posting doesn't lead to real results.

If you want to grow your business on social media, you need a plan that connects with your audience and aligns with your goals. That’s why I also recommend reading this blog post on strategy vs random posting. It breaks down exactly why strategy wins every time.

And that’s where this one-hour method comes in. Ready to plan like a pro? Kettle on, let’s do this!

Step 1: Check Your Insights from the Previous 7 Days (⌚dependent on how many platforms you use)

Before you plan new content, check your insights from the previous 7 days.

  • Open your Professional Dashboard (or analytics) and narrow down your top 3 posts from last week on each of the platforms you use.

  • Ask yourself:

  • What topics, formats, or hooks resonated?

  • How can I build on that momentum this week?

Step 2: Start With One Platform in Mind

Create your core content with *one platform in mind Then, you can easily repurpose it for others. That’s where my trusty AI pal Chat GPT comes in. Once you've created your caption for the initial platform you've chosen, simply copy and paste and ask Chat GPT to reformat it for LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.

Just be sure to have done your groundwork with your AI assistant beforehand. I talk through how to do that in this Instagram post.

Planning without insights = guessing.

Planning with insights = growing.

And that's what we want!

Step 3: List Out All Your Offers (⌚<5 mins)

Grab your Social Media Planner (or a notebook) and list every offer you have.

Not just your paid services or products, but everything:

  • ✅ Freebies (email list opt-ins?)

  • ✅ Blog posts or podcasts

  • ✅ Workshops, events

  • ✅ Paid products or services

If you don't do this? Out of sight, out of mind. You’ll forget to mention offers, and your audience can't get involved with what they don't know about. Writing everything you offer down keeps them fresh in your mind when planning your content and priorities for the week. (Some of the 100+ small business owners that use my planner tell me this is their favorite part; without it, they would miss so much!)

Step 4: Decide What You Want to Spotlight This Week (⌚5 mins)

Now ask yourself:✨ What do I want to shine a spotlight on this week?

You can mention multiple offers throughout the week. But, picking a focus helps your messaging feel clear (and sales feel easier).

Maybe you want to promote a new product, highlight a service you offer, or grow your email list. Choose your priority, then weave it into your content plan.

Step 5: Map Out Your Attract/Nurture/Convert Strategy (⌚20 mins)

This is where it all comes together.

Keep it simple with a proven strategy:

  • 50% Attract: Bring new people into your world (Reels, relatable tips, inspiring content).

  • 30% Nurture: Build trust with your existing audience (behind-the-scenes, personal stories).

  • 20% Convert: Boldly promote your offers (testimonials, product demos, how to work with you).

Mix it up with different formats:

  • Reels for maximum reach

  • Carousels for educational tips

  • Stories for real-time connection

  • Graphics for reminders, quotes, and CTAs

Use these percentages as a rough guide. Don’t overcomplicate it.

Step 6: Create and Schedule at Least 2 Posts (⌚20 mins)

Before you wrap up, take action.

Create and schedule at least two posts, including tomorrow’s. Trust me; your future self will thank you!

Simple “done is better than perfect” posts build massive momentum. You’ll stay ahead of schedule and thank yourself later when life inevitably gets busy.

Planning Content Doesn’t Have to Be a Struggle

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every week. You don’t need to post every day. And you definitely don’t need to wing it.

With a little upfront planning and the right tools, social media can go from overwhelming to actually enjoyable (and profitable!).

So next time you say "I don’t know what to post," remember: you can plan a whole week of content in one focused hour.
