Should I blog? If so, what about?

Have you considered blogging for your small business but you're just not sure what the point is or what you would write about? Then ironically, you've landed on the right blog today!

So, Yes! Is the answer to the first question. Yes you should blog.

Why?

  • Helps drive traffic to your website through keywords

  • Helps position you as an expert in your industry

  • Great way to keep in touch with your email subscribers

  • Long shelf life, will continue to drive traffic to your site months, even years, after it's published

Blogging can sometimes be seen as a bit old hat, who's got time these days to sit and read a blog? What's the point? We want our info quickly, in bite sized chunks and on Instagram preferably. But, how many times have you searched for something online and came along a blog and been so thankful for it. I'm currently working on my photography websites and am tied up in knots around fonts! So I searched Google and Pinterest for fonts that go well together and came across someone's blog from a few years ago, the information was still spot on.

The site I found also offers a few brand photography business courses that I might be interested in in the future, and so the point being is that if I hadn't been searching for that particular thing it's unlikely I would have found that blog/website and therefore wouldn't have known about this fab business who I may buy from in the future. A great example of a blog working for you far down the line from when you created it. Social media content generally only has a shelf life of around 24 hours (I know, heart-breaking when you consider the thought and time that goes into that content) AND lets all bear in mind we don't own our social media space, it can be pulled at any time. You must have a website and it must be working hard for you.

Ok Amanda I'm in, I'm ready to jump on the blogging express but erm, what do I write about?

This part is easy, once you start this process you will have a page full of ideas in no time:

Write down what you do and then break that down into mini subjects from there, then break down your mini subjects into another mini subject if you can.

For example:

Beauty company - sells environmentally friendly, sustainable beauty products

  • Why I'm passionate about the environment

  • Packaging - yours and that of the products you sell

  • Brands you love and why

  • Other areas you work on to lessen your impact

  • What do you look for in a brand before considering it for retail

  • Regular new product updates

  • Why sustainable skin care is still quality skin care

  • 5 easy steps you can take to become more environmentally friendly

When I fully launch my brand and product photography business at the end of the year I will be offering brand and content strategy sessions, more on that soon but in the meantime, my inbox is open and I would love to help you with this process if you're stuck. Just drop me a message and let's tackle it together!

I would also love to read your first blog, please do send me the link.

Speak soon,

Amanda xx
