Posting Consistently but Still Not Getting Results? Here’s What You Need to Know!
Thinking about hiring help with social media for your small business but not sure if that’s the right move?
You are not alone. Many small business owners reach this point. You’re doing your best. You show up regularly. You post quotes and film the occasional Reel, even if it makes you want to melt into the floor.
Yet, something isn’t clicking. Engagement is low, growth is slow, and you’re left wondering...
Is it time to hand this over to someone else? Am I even “big enough” to hire a social media manager?
Let’s dive in. Whether you’re stuck in a content rut, ghosting your grid from burnout, or ready to get serious about your marketing, I’ve got you covered.
This post is based on my chat with Hannah Adams, founder of Heyday Digital Agency. I highly recommend giving the full episode a listen if you’re considering outsourcing. Here’s the cheat sheet version 👇
DIY Social Media vs. Hiring a Pro: What’s the Actual Difference?
DIY-ing your socials is usually where we all start. You create your own graphics, write your own captions, and Google “trending Reel audios” on the daily and without the right knowledge or support (the kind I offer in my online Social Media Mentor Group) it can get overwhelming real quick.
So, if you've tried DIY and you're wondering if it might be time to outsource your socials, that’s where someone like Hannah comes in.
She’s not just posting stuff for you. She’s:
Building a strategy rooted in your goals.
Spotting what your audience is actually responding to.
Helping you stay consistent without burning out.
Creating content that sounds like you, but with a pro’s polish.
It’s the difference between “posting to stay visible” and marketing with a plan.
What to Look For (and What to Avoid)
If you’re considering hiring help, here are some key points to keep in mind:
✅ Green Flags:
They ask you about your audience and offers before suggesting content.
They focus on strategy, not just what’s trending.
They’re clear on what success looks like and how to measure it.
They sound excited about your biz (because vibes matter!).
🚩 Red Flags:
They promise to “make you go viral.”
They create content in a vacuum without your input.
They only talk about follower count, not conversions or connection.
They treat your brand like a copy/paste template.
A great social media manager or agency should feel like an extension of your team, not just a task-ticker.
Why Your Content Might Not Be Working (It’s Not Just the Algorithm)
One of the most helpful insights Hannah shared in our conversation?
You might be too close to your own content.
That caption you thought was clear? It might actually be confusing. That Reel you were sure would flop? It could be the most relatable thing you’ve ever posted.
A social media expert can:
See the messaging gaps you’re missing.
Help you shift from “selling” to connecting.
Spot patterns in your analytics that actually mean something.
Keep your content fresh and aligned with your biz goals.
Sometimes, we just need someone outside our own head to reflect what’s really landing.
What the Heck Is Community-First Marketing? (And Why It Works)
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I bang on about connection over perfection.
Hannah calls this community-first marketing, and I love how she puts it: It’s not about growing for the sake of growing. It’s about building a space where your people feel seen, supported, and excited to stick around.
When you focus on community:
Your engagement goes up.
Your offers make more sense to your audience.
People start referring you (without you even asking).
And spoiler: this is what leads to sales. Not perfectly branded templates and 17 hashtags.
“But Amanda… I Hate Being on Camera”
Oh you're not alone in this 😂
But I also know that the content that connects most is often the stuff that feels a little awkward. A little imperfect. A little “is this too weird to post?”
That’s often the content that hits.
Hannah and I agree: you don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be you.
If video makes you want to run for the hills, your social media manager can help ease you in with confidence-building strategies that still feel like you.
TL;DR: Should You Outsource?
Here’s what I tell my clients: Outsourcing isn’t about giving up. It’s about getting strategic.
If content is:
Taking up too much of your time.
Not converting the way you want.
Leaving you stressed, stuck, or over it.
Then yes, it might be time to bring in a pro. Just make sure you choose someone who gets your vision and works with you, not just for you.
Either way, you’ve got options. And support. And permission to make your marketing easier.
