Time, Energy and Money - Your Valuable Currencies

Writer's picture: Amanda HughesAmanda Hughes

In life we have 3 valuable currencies to use, time, energy and money.

When we think of these precious resources in the context of our small business, we have to be very careful what we use where and when.

Small business owners are often quick to say "I don't have the budget for that right now" the "that" is usually outsourced help or marketing of some kind.. am I right? So, that then leaves us having to use our other currencies on those areas, time and energy. But I also know PLENTY of small business owners who have limited resources in time and energy too so what do we do?

Well, if you want your small business to grow, you're going to have to invest something, somewhere and you have to weigh up the pros and cons before parting with any of them.

Take your photography for example, sure you can learn to do it yourself, of course you can but, how much time and energy is that going to take? Like, seriously to find some online tutorials, blogs etc, take time to watch and read them, take notes. Then, set yourself up for a shoot (and trust me there will be many re-takes) it would take days if not more. How much money could you be making in that time instead, doing what you're good at? Enough to cover the cost of a professional shoot? Probably. Then when you get your professional images back, edited and ready to post on your website, flyers, socials.. how much money are they going to bring in? Most likely more as studies show that professional brand photography elevates the value of your brand.

It's food for thought isn't it? We're so quick to see money as our only currency, our most precious resource but it's really not. In fact, money is the only resource that we can actually make more of, your time and energy are much more limited.

Does this prompt you to have a think about where you currently spend your 3 currencies? Is there somewhere you could make changes? Are you parting with cash for something you could be doing yourself and are you spending time doing something you could pay someone to do to free up that time?

Let me know what you think and if you plan to make any changes or try something new, I'd love to know how you get on!

Speak soon,

Amanda
