Introduction posts are one of the most overthought pieces of content I see small business owners struggle with… yet they’re also one of the most important when it comes to building trust and turning followers into customers.

So let’s make this simple and remember, if you want this type of support x 10 with your social media content, you want to be in GSGS. Get Seen Get Sales is our incredible online social media mentorship community for small business owners. You get all the tools, resources and importantly SUPPORT you need to make social media easy, fun and profitable. We're saving you a seat here.

Why Introduction Posts Matter

Introduction posts sit right in the middle of your content strategy, your nurture content.

This is the content that:

  • Builds trust

  • Helps people get to know you

  • Turns followers into paying customers

People don’t buy from Instagram business accounts. They buy from the people behind them.

Especially if you run an online business and your audience might never meet you in real life.

Your introduction post is your chance to say: “Here I am. This is who I am. This is what I’m about.”

And that’s where the magic happens! Listen Now

Oh Hiiii! This is me and if we went for coffee the first thing you'd learn about me is I don't like coffee 🤣

Let’s Talk About the Photo (I Know You’re Overthinking It)

“Does it need to be professional?”

“Is a selfie okay?”

“What does this photo say about me?”

Deep breath.

Your photo just needs to be:

  • Clear

  • Well-lit

  • Appropriate

That’s it.

You do not need:

  • A professional shoot

  • New clothes

  • Perfect makeup

Right now, more than ever, people are craving real life on social media.

So whether it’s:

  • A selfie

  • A photo taken by a friend

  • A casual shot at your workspace

Just show up as you.

What Do You Actually Say in an Introduction Post?

This is where most people get stuck.

You either:

  • Draw a complete blank

  • Or overthink every single word

And then start questioning…“Who even cares about this?”

👉 Your ideal client cares.

They want to know:

  • What you’re like

  • What you value

  • What your life looks like behind the business

Because that’s how they decide if you’re their person. Listen Now

How Personal Should You Go?

You don’t have to share your deepest life story.

But if you want to, here are three things to consider:

  1. How comfortable are you sharing it?

  2. Is it relevant to your business?

  3. Will your ideal client relate to it?

If it ticks those boxes go for it.

If not? Keep it light. I actually talk about this in one of my earlier blogs too, read it here

The Biggest Mistake I See And How to Fix It

“I thought I’d do one of these because I’ve got new followers…”

No 😅

That energy? It’s apologetic, instead, we flip it.

We make it engaging. Natural. Easy to read.

Try This Instead

Instead of:

“Hi, I’m Amanda and here’s a bit about me…”

Try:

👉 “If we went for coffee, here’s a few things you’d learn about me…”

It takes the pressure off and makes your post flow so much more naturally.

More “Story Starter” Ideas You Can Use

  • If we went for a walk today, here’s what you’d learn about me

  • If we got chatting in a café queue…

  • If you popped into my shop today…

  • If we met at a market or event…

See how much easier that feels?

You’re not performing, you’re just having a conversation.

Where This Fits in Your Content Strategy

Quick tip 👇

Your introduction post is nurture content, not attract content.

Which means:

  • Best as a carousel on Instagram

  • Or a text + image post on Facebook / LinkedIn

Because video (Reels) is usually shown to non-followers and, unless you're a mega celeb, strangers don’t care about your life yet. Your introduction post works best once someone has already followed you and wants to get to know you more.
