Ahh, a topic I love to talk about because I am of course the founding member of The Sunday Club! What's Sunday Club you ask? Jeez, where have you been?!
The Sunday Club is a term I coined last year on Instagram referring to myself, and anyone else who wanted to join me, in taking an hour on a Sunday evening to plan their social media content for their small business for the week ahead. Initially, lots of folks asked what I did, how I planned ahead and if I really found it made a difference to my week. Then, before I knew it, others were telling me they were also in The Sunday Club, I was completely (pleasantly) taken aback at how quickly it took off!
I was, of course, delighted to see so many fellow small business owners get involved as I believe planning ahead is one of the most important activities you can undertake in your business.
Here's why:
Brings Clear Direction: Without a plan in your business you will likely be trundling along aimlessly and that ain't great. Planning ahead, in this instance for your social media content, brings you clear direction. By taking time out to actually create a strategy for what you want your business to achieve that week, you are ensuring you stay on the right path to your business goals
Takes the pressure off: We've all been there "I'll just do it on Monday" and then Monday comes around and eats you up just like Mondays often do and you've posted nothing on your small business social media pages, nada. Tuesday comes and go's then BOOM it's Wednesday and you throw a post up about something, anything, and of course, it flops. Your confidence is then in the bin and you write the rest of the week off. A whole week of missed opportunity to grow your business. Ouch! Taking some time out, whether it's on a Sunday evening or any other day and time that suits you, severely takes the pressure off through the working week. Even more so if you also create and schedule some posts ahead of time!
Ensures you align with your business priorities: Post and pray marketing is the term used to describe marketing with zero strategy behind it. You're just posting whatever comes into your mind that day (perhaps panic posting as mentioned above) with no goal behind it. Planning your social media marketing ahead of time allows you to have a think about what your priorities are for that week, month, year and align your posts to those goals, THAT'S the way to do it!
Allows you to monitor progress: If you're in The Sunday Club then you're likely writing down your plans for the week (and if not then you definitely will be soon with my new planner - more on that in a sec) not only does this help you plan ahead, it also helps you look back. Perhaps take some time out at the end of every month to collate the information you've been gathering like what has worked well, what hasn't, what's getting the most engagement on social media, what sorts of posts i.e. reels, stories etc are doing particularly well. This is a great way to monitor progress and check in that you're on the right path and if not, gives you the insight you need to change things up!
Allows you to really understand your business: I think this may be my favourite part of the planning ahead process in my business. Taking time out to really sit with my business and understand it on a deeper level rather than just a quick glance. Really dive into numbers like sales, Instagram engagement, that kind of thing. It helps me check in with my offerings too, as I offer multiple things in my brand photography business, and ask if they are all performing as well as I'd like and if not, what can I change?
So, do you fancy joining us in The Sunday Club if you're not already? And if you are already a Sunday clubber, do you fancy making things official?
