Why You Can’t Tag @Everyone on Facebook Anymore (And What to Do Instead)

You use Facebook for your small business and of course, you want your posts to get seen, so you head to the comments and tag @followers @everyone or @topfans using the batch mention function hoping to gain as many eyeballs on your post as possible and.. shock horror.. realise the Facebook @everyone tag has disappeared! You're wondering why you can't use the @everyone tag on Facebook anymore and how on earth your business is going to get seen on Facebook now but I promise, you can still reach your followers on Facebook without using the @everyone tag.

Let's get into it.

First let me ask you this…

Have you ever been on the receiving end of the @everyone tag on Facebook?

You get a ping:

“Sally mentioned you…”And you think, ooh lovely, what’s she tagged me in?

Then you read the rest:

“…and other followers in a comment.”

Cue eye roll. And log off. Maybe even unfollow MAYBE even block (sorry, but it's true, I did a poll!)

It doesn’t feel good to be lumped in with every other Tom, Dick, and Harry.

It’s not remotely personal, it’s not warm and it definitely doesn’t make anyone rush to check out the post or want to work with your business.

Facebook knows this, they've received complaints about the use of the @everyone tag and so, they've started to remove it. Result = Facebook @everyone tag gone.

If you’re a small business owner who's been relying on the @followers tag in your post comments, I get it. I really do. I’ve asked around, and the most common reply from business owners is:

“It’s the only way to get seen.”

But it’s not, I promise.

If you'd love to be a part of a small business community membership but aren't sure where to start, check out this podcast episode of Growth Addicts where I discuss that very subject.

Mass tagging your followers on Facebook isn’t a strategy

It’s a shortcut that often backfires so honestly, don't be disheartened that the feature is gone, take it as a sign to shake things up a bit!

When you take the time to get your content foundations right, clarity, purpose, variety, your reach will improve and you won’t need spammy tactics. Just good content, seen by the right people.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Facebook @Everyone Tag

What is the @everyone tag on Facebook?

The @everyone tag (also called "batch mention" by Facebook) is a feature that allows group admins and moderators to send a notification to every single member of a Facebook group at once, simply by typing @everyone in a post or comment. It was introduced in 2022 as a quick way to get announcements seen — but it quickly became one of the most complained-about features on the platform.

Why can't I use @everyone on Facebook anymore?

There are a few reasons you might find the Facebook @everyone tag has disappeared or isn't working. Facebook has been restricting and rolling back the feature in response to widespread complaints from users who felt spammed. On top of that, @everyone has never been available on Facebook Pages — only in Groups — and even within Groups, only admins and moderators can use it. You also can only use it once every 24 hours. If none of those apply, it's likely Facebook has simply removed it from your group as part of their wider rollback.

Is the Facebook @everyone tag the same as batch mention?

Yes! "Batch mention" is Facebook's official name for the @everyone tag. If you're looking in your notification settings to turn it off (or wondering why it disappeared), you'll find it listed as "batch @everyone mentions" rather than just @everyone.

Can my followers turn off @everyone notifications?

Yes, they can — and many do. Members can go to Settings > Notifications > Tags and toggle off "batch mentions" to stop receiving @everyone notifications entirely. This is actually one of the big reasons relying on the tag is a risky strategy: a portion of your audience may never see it anyway.

Does the @everyone tag actually help small businesses on Facebook?

In short, no — not in any meaningful way. While it might get a few extra eyeballs on a post, the experience for the person receiving the notification is rarely positive. It feels impersonal, can come across as spammy, and risks people unfollowing or leaving your group altogether. Reach built on good content and genuine connection will always outperform a bulk tag.

What should I do instead of using @everyone on Facebook?

Focus on the foundations: know your ideal client, plan your content with purpose, and show up consistently with posts that attract, nurture and convert. That's exactly what my Get Seen Get Sales Method® is built around — and it's what members of The Small Business Community use to get real, sustainable results on social media without relying on shortcuts.
